Archaeal lipids track AOA ecology and evolution
Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences
In this project, we leverage previously published archaeal membrane lipids, known as Glycerol Dialkyl Glycerol Tetrathers (GDGTs), derived from multiple archives, including laboratory cultures of both marine and hot springs archaea, modern marine waters and sediments, as well as ancient marine sediments dated back up to 192 million years ago.

Distribution patterns of archaea membrane lipids across different archives. The 'presumed thermal dependent' trend is shown by the shaded gray bars where higher TEX$_{86}$ associated with lower GDGT-2/GDGT-3 ratios.
